STIHL Genuine M5 Squash Nuts x 2 fit many saws from 024 to 661 # 9214 320 0700

Here we have two (2) STIHL M5 x .8mm Squash Nuts or Stover Nuts.
These are,to the best of my knowledge, a German Invention and a superb one at that.
These are used on the dog spikes on many many of the STIHL line up from the 024 all the way up to the MS661, most saws have one on the upper fixing of the inner dog and two on the outer dog if there is one fitted.  The spanner size you need with these nuts is 8mm, a ring spanner or socket if of course best.
If in doubt check your parts manual or IPL (integrated parts list).
 
The Squash Nut / Stover Nut is a hex all-metal prevailing torque self-locking nut, made to DIN980V standard. (DIN means German Institute for Standards or... Deutsches Institut für Normung.
This is not the sort of thing you buy from Australian Fastener Suppliers.
If keeping your saw all original is important to you then you may need these squash nuts.
These lock nuts are vibration resistant self-locking nuts, which are resistant to shocks, vibration and dynamic loads – and they can be reused a number of times.
The locking function is achieved by the deformation of part of the nut. The nut will run smoothly until it reaches the deformed part, after which the clamping force will increase.
