STIHL Genuine "Improved" Inner Dog Spike fits 038 to 661 # 1144 660 0800

Here we have a Genuine STIHL Improved Inner Dog Spike that fits many saws.
What is special about this one is that is have a half nut electrically welded on the upper mount. STIHL has done this to stop the problems that have plagued many of their saws in that the old way of a loose nut would so often come loose, this in turn would chop out the crankase and you know how expensive they are.
The other benifit is they are so easy to fit too, in that you do not need an 8mm spanner / wrench on the inside, which can be tricky as the muffler cover is often in the way.
All in all a great step forward by STIHL to fix what was in essence a design flaw.
I just wish they would weld on these half nuts to the rest of their inner dogs. Maybe in time they will.
