These are beautifully cast at STIHL Dedicated Magnesium Casting Factory / Plant in Germany. The metal is AZ91 Magnesium which is an airplane grade space alloy. You do not get this metal if you buy after market of any of the 070, 090 parts that they sell online. So beware of that!
This parts is powder coated in STIHL grey as well and this coating is tough, the paint "wraps" the part completely so you know it is going to hang on. The problem you will find on old fuel tank covers is that they can and do suffer from magnesium rot or as some call it "white death", contract floors are bad for causing this as well as any salty or acid environments too
