Genuine STIHL Oil Tank Guard Plate / Protection Plate
This plate saves your oil tank from being smashed should your chain de-rail. You know being aluminium it is soft and sort of "catches" the chain when this happens as it does, if and when folks run their chains too loose. Problem is if this occurs a few times, well your Guard Plate is being sacrificed... in other words cut to pieces.
So... on older saws this plate is most often quite cut up and damaged. They also can get really bent out of shape too.
From what I have seen fixing scores of old 1106 saws, this part is generally always best to replace. It's not expensive for what it is and it will freshen your saw up too.
